SONOMA COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION 2013-2015 GOALS

  1. Support communication and collaboration among School District Boards and between School District Boards and the County Board.
  2. Support the improvement of attendance at the County Court and Community Schools.
  3. Support community collaboration and initiatives that align and support education.
  4. Improve visibility and relationships with the community regarding the mission and purpose of the Sonoma County Board of Education.

Please Note: The Sonoma County Board of Education will also convene within this Regular Board meeting as the governing board in the event there are agenda items that deal with matters concerning Court and Community Schools.

  California League of Middle School winners are acknowledged. Dan Evans Rincon Valley  Middle School, Casey Moore Santa Rosa Middle School, Sandy Martin Herbert Slater Middle School, Mary Ann Simon Hilliard Comstock Middle School.

         
b. Alternative Education Department Recognition - Celia Lamantia      (D)  
  Alternative Education Department Director, Georgia Ioakimedes, will recognize Celia Lamantia for her accomplishments in the classroom.

a. Public Participation      (D)  
  This time is reserved for any person to address the Board on any item(s) of interest, provided the subject relates to the subject matter jurisdiction of the Sonoma County Board of Education (Government Code §54954.3{a}). The Board may not take action or discuss any subject that is not on the agenda, but wishes to allow time for public participation in its meeting. Should comments from the public pertain to a charge or complaint against an employee of the County Superintendent of Schools, the Board advises that the matter should be pursued following established complaint procedures. In accordance with Board Bylaw 9320 (a), it shall be the prerogative of the presiding officer to set a time limit for the presentation by an individual or group. Individuals are requested to state their name and address.

b. Purchase of Standard School Supplies      (V)  
  The Board is requested to approve the process under which any public school district in the county shall purchase standard school supplies from the County Superintendent of Schools or when so directed by him or her, through a county purchasing agent.
         
c. Personal property scheduled for disposal during the 3rd quarter of 2014-15      (V)  
  The Superintendent certifies that individual items of personal property scheduled for disposal during the 3rd quarter of 2014-15 have a fair market value of $25,000 or less.

Education Code 1279 (b) states: "The county superintendent of schools shall not in any manner dispose of any personal property worth less than twenty-five thousand dollars ($25,000) that belongs to the county office of education unless he or she certifies the value of the property in a quarterly report and submits that report to the county board of education for review."

  The Board will receive the June 30, 2014 Audit prepared by the independent auditing firm of Nigro & Nigro.  The Audit is accompanied by an Audit letter.  Jimmy Whittington, Auditor, Nigro & Nigro, will provide new members of the Board with a brief overview of the Audit.

  The Board will receive the Human Resources Staff Employed/Separated for November 16 - December 15, 2014.

  The Board will receive a presentation from Assistant Superintendent John Laughlin, Special Education, regarding the status of program transfers.

a. Appointment of Board Member to the Business and Personnel Services Standing Committee      (D)  (V)  
  President Lisa Wittke Schaffner will appoint Khaalid Muttaqi and Gina Cuclis as the representative of the Board to the Business and Personnel Services Standing Committee.

  President Lisa Wittke Schaffner will appoint Peter Kostas as the representative of the Board to the JPA Standing Committee.
         
b. BB 9130 and BP 2111      (D)  
  Board to consider the wording in BP 2111, as it refers to the Board President being a representative on the JPA Standing Committee. It was discussed in the December 4th, regular board meeting, that the Board President was not to serve on this committee. BB 9130 to be used for reference.
         
c. Non budgeted Board expenses         (D)  
  Information for new board members: Requests for $1000 or greater of non budgeted board expenses is shared with the whole board for consensus
         
d. Non-scheduled conference, CLSBA         (D)  
  Board member Herman G. Hernandez would like to attend the California Latino School Board Association's 2015 Unity Conference held in Hilton Del Mar, CA, October 1-4, 2015.
         
e. Board President's Report      (D)  
  The Board President will highlight her activities.
